Cuisine traditionelle fait à merveille! Avec une demi-bouteille de Sancerre rouge, quoi de mieux? Foie gras poelé, magret de canard au cassis, millefeuille de rêve.

angeletto, 980 second avenue, manhattan

These people understand hospitality. Crostini with a red-pepper spread and fresh whole grain bread were followed by the risotto of the day with shrimp and artichoke. Made from scratch, the risotto was unctuous yet the rice still was deliciously firm. The artichokes were tender and the shrimp was flavorful. Spaghetti with clams had the special touch of freshly made pasta rather than dried spaghetti. Generous with the very fresh clams, the sauce was just of the right thickness and not too salty. Tiramisu was extremely fresh and big enough for two people. The glass of Montepulciano was spectacular and even my friend's Pinot Grigio was fragrant and interesting. Espresso was concentrated and tasty. We were then offered a refreshing glass of Prosecco and a final taste of Muscat on the way out. Service was prompt and attentive. We visited the kitchen which was very clean and well organized. The pride and joy is a beautiful Italian pasta extruder (it looked expensive). I can't wait to try their lasagna!

metta brooklyn

Everything is cooked over a wood fire at this cozy spot. Excellent sausage and polenta. Beef was tasty but tough. Interesting wine list. The whole grilled fish looked amazing. Exotic desserts.

bubby's tribeca

Great comfort food in Tribeca. My new favorite burger: great beef, huge slabs of bacon, swiss, fresh lettuce and tomato, onion, great bun, decent fries. Fried chicken was ok, but too hot (needs to "rest"), somewhat oily. It was good reheated later. Cherry pie was excellent. Nice atmosphere and service. Good beer selection. Wine by the glass was sketchy.

coq rico, manhattan near union square

Had a very nice pâté de foie gras de canard en croûte, a nicely poached-roasted Brune Landaise chicken with a great side salad and lots of flavorsome gravy. The desserts here are spectacular. We had the vacherin: meringue + strawberries + strawberry sorbet + chantilly + hazelnuts. Gamay and Muscat by the glass and good espresso.

frenchette in tribeca

Frenchette is cosy and wonderful. Food is sublime and the service people are diverse and professional. Exotic wine list includes bottles from the Auvergne. I had a great pinot noir from Spain! We shared mortadella then I had boudin blanc and the rotisserie lobster. Bruno had oysters and duck frites. No room for dessert. A 5:30 reservation can be cool!

olmsted in prospect heights, brooklyn

One block from my house is one of the best restaurants in the city. If it does not have a Michelin star, it will soon. Brunch is very creative and fun: elongated mini-bacon omelettes in a french fry container, a breakfast burger with Choron sauce and pickles, a cinnamon bun. Dinner is equally unusual: duck two ways, a pork collar au gratin (I was skeptical until I tried it). Fantastic desserts: a yogurty meringuey concoction, classic chocolate mousse, and a PBJ-based dessert which is not too sweet and features interesting juxtapositions of three flavors.
