rebelle: review

No pics this time. Great birthday dinner on the Bowery at Rebelle. You (I) gotta love a place with an 80-page wine list. Three hosts may seem like too much, but often that's what it takes. In any case, it worked. Great corner table, nice space. First course: asparagus / leeks. Second course: we both had the scallops (wonderful). Third course: chicken / duck breast (perfectly cooked). Fabulous three grain bread from She-Wolf bakery (white/whole wheat/rye) with butter and Maldon (I think) salt. Dessert: Paris Brest / Rhubarb concoction. World's greatest sommelier guided us towards a 2002 Olga Raffault "Les Picasses" Chinon that did not disappoint. Great music including Lou Reed and others evocative of the Bowery's storied past. Back dining room has view of very picturesque sunken open kitchen with black subway-tiled walls. There's a bar in facing the action where you can watch from the front row (next time). Grade: A+
